Education
He obtained his Piano Diploma at the Conservatorio di Parma in 2013. Under the guidance of pianist Fabrizio Ottaviucci, he further explored the study of John Cage’s prepared piano and the music of other important 20th-century composers, including Giacinto Scelsi and Morton Feldman.
He participated in the Erasmus program, studying for a year at the “Stanislawa Moniuszki” Academy of Music in Gdańsk (Poland) with M.° Waldemar Wojtal. During that year, he developed a passion for jazz, taking his first lessons with M.° Leszek Kułakowski.
In parallel with these studies, he graduated in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of Parma with a thesis on acoustics, in which he studied the acoustic treatment of the Church of San Ludovico in Parma to transform it into a concert hall.
In 2016, he obtained the Bachelor in Jazz Piano under the guidance of maestros Alberto Tacchini, Roberto Bonati, and Roberto Dani, with a thesis on John Taylor, achieving the highest marks. He also studied composition with M.° Luigi Abbate and saxophone with M.° Massimo Ferraguti.
In 2021, he obtained the Master in Jazz Piano at the Conservatorio di Milano under the guidance of M.° Umberto Petrin, with a thesis on the music of Carla Bley.
In 2023, he was selected for the prestigious annual international Masterclasses of the Giornate del Cinema Muto in Pordenone, where he studied with the most important silent film musicians such as Donald Sosin, Philip Carli, Gabriel Thibaudeau, Daan Van den Hurk, Gunther Buchwald, and also performed at the Teatro Verdi.
Artistic and Professional Activity
In January 2021, his debut solo piano album “A Light in the Darkness” was released, produced by Dodicilune, featuring his original compositions. He was invited by Stefano Zenni to present this work at the MetJazz 2021 Festival “Il futuro del jazz italiano” (the future of Italian jazz) – Teatro Metastasio in Prato (concert recorded by RaiRadio3). The album received excellent reviews in specialized magazines and national newspapers (Il Manifesto, Gazzetta di Parma, Jazzit, Jazz Convention, A proposito di Jazz, Anima Jazz, La nuova cronaca di Mantova, ..).
Other original works were published by Emme Record Label in September 2021, this time with his project Unusual Trio (with Gabriele Fava on tenor and soprano sax, and Giacomo Ganzerli on drums). The album was presented at Palazzo Te in Mantova and at the Fara Music Festival. The track “Il Grinch 1” from the album was selected by All About Jazz for the “Song of the Day” feature.
In January 2022, his second solo piano album titled “SILENCES – The Impossible Show” was released in France, commissioned by Pascal Maurice éditeur. The album includes an original reinterpretation of “Du bist meine Sonne” by Franz Lehár and “Mack the Knife” by Kurt Weill, along with original pieces by Goretti himself.
He has performed for: Met Jazz, Parma Frontiere Jazz, Associazione 4’33”, Il jazz italiano per le terre del sisma, Sarah’s Jazz Club Lefkosia, Miles Smiles Wien, Piano City Milano, Piano City Lecce – Preludio, Piano Lab, Trame Sonore, Oooh Festival, Naturalmente Pianoforte, Studiottantuno Contemporary Art Projects, Storeroom Malta.
In 2021, he became part of the section “The Young Italian Improvisation”, curated by Ettore Garzia for Percorsi Musicali.
Over the years, he has participated in various artistic projects and productions such as:
- duo with New York singer Sivan Arbel (concerts in Italy, Cyprus, Malta);
- conduction led by composer and double bassist Roberto Bonati (Teatro Regio di Parma – published on DVD by the Parma Frontiere Jazz label –, Casa della Musica di Parma);
- participation in the recording of the album “A Teatro” by Alberto Minozzi quintet published by WoW Records (Zeno Merlin – alto sax, Martino de Franceschi – bass, Enrico Truzzi – drums);
- collaboration with double bassist and composer Joy Grifoni;
- arrangement and interpretation in solo piano of the music by composer Stefano Gueresi, also participating in the recording of the album “Stefano Gueresi – Il Ricordo vol.2” (TRJ Records);
- live scoring for silent films (The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari_, L’Inferno, Abwege_);
- participation in international radical improvisation festivals (Oooh Festival – Amsterdam, London, Tel Aviv, Ragusa Ibla –, RARA Festival);
- participation in the experimental musical theatre project Digitans (for two keyboards and voice, with music by composer Alessandro Boratti from Trentino and improvisations), resulting in a winning artistic residency for the 460 Festival del Gran Paradiso;
- performance “Tempo indefinito” for piano and dance, with choreographer Mariagrazia Marrazzo. The performance debuted in October 2021 at the Studiottantuno Contemporary Art Projects in Mantova;
- collaboration with traditional Chinese and Iranian musicians.
Since 2019, he has worked as a dance accompanist pianist at the Coreutico High School in Mantova, composing and arranging original and author music.
His composition for solo alto saxophone Pandora e Utopia was premiered during the performance “Padroni delle nostre vite,” in collaboration with the Conservatorio di Parma.
